Universal Spiritual Principles

Make space for reflection. Practice a value. Choose one thoughtful next step.

Twelve guided lessons follow the twelve recovery Steps, with their spiritual principles, deeper guidance, two fictional scenarios, practice, reflection, and private writing.

Always free to use. Optional donations help support TEF’s mission.

Recovery context and sources

Recovery spiritual principles are connected with working the Twelve Steps, rather than an unrelated list of positive values. This independent TEF supplement uses a common AA-oriented teaching map, informed by the AA Cleveland article, with differences explicitly noted for OA. It is not conference-approved AA, NA or OA literature, and it does not imply endorsement or replace fellowship literature, sponsorship, treatment or medication. Several principles can support the same step. Discuss the language and pace with your own fellowship or sponsor. You may pass, write privately or use the fictional examples. Do not put identifying recovery histories in this public workbook. These lessons describe step themes in original words; they do not reproduce the official steps.

LEARN AND PRACTICE

The twelve Steps and their principles

Go deeper with practical guidance, two real-life scenarios, suggested responses, and reflection questions in each lesson. Listen to the text or learn at your own pace.

YOUR SPACE TO REFLECT

A small step this week

Your writing stays in this browser on this device. It is not sent to TEF. On a shared device, clear your notes when you finish.

Study in your own way

You may skip a question, write privately, or use a fictional example. Spiritual traditions differ. These lessons support reflection and learning; they do not diagnose, rank beliefs, or promise particular outcomes.
